Oh my Lord

Another shining example of a blatantly ignorant group of Dominicans on both sides.

Can anyone look into how a public park can be allowed to have a Casino built in it at all?

I bet you that lawyer would have her head literally handed to her if she said to tear the whole structure down. So, what the next best corrupt thing to do? Hold out your hand then you can look the other way.

I'm not choosing sides or defending anyone, but it does make sense to me.
The deal is that they build a nice park for Sosua.
The old park was kind of ugly and useless.
The land is certainly big enough to accommodate both the casino and the park, IMHO.

I suppose the new Casino/Convention Centre is aesthetically pleasing if you enjoy looking at a 6 story cement bunker on the way to the beach.

I really don't know what it's going to look like when it's finished, but I presume they will make it look good, to attract client?le.

I disagree that the old park was ugly. It was a very pleasant, shaded place to walk through on a hot day. It wasn't used much, and wasn't as well mainteined as it should have been, but it was 1000% more aesthetically pleasing and useful than what we have been looking at since they cut down most of the trees, and turned the once pleasant park into a very ugly, completely useless Sosua landmark.

Before they even started construction on the casino, they tore up the park then left it alone. That still makes no sense to me. Then they came in an spread some concrete around, making it look like an abandoned project.

As far as the new park is concerned, if it is as shown in the plans that were posted when they tore up the old park, I predict it will not get much use. The reason is that most of the trees that provided shade were cut down, leaving the majority of what is to be the park open to the hot sun. No doubt they will import a bunch of palms, but they provide very little shade. Certainly nothing to compare to those wonderful old trees with widely spreading branches that shaded the entire are previously.

Cutting down trees to make a park that has the sun beating down on the users seems to be standard practice in the DR. When you pass La Union, take a look at the park recently constructed there. It looks very attractive with brightly colored fences, etc., but where is the shade to make it a pleasant place to sit or play in during the hot days? All the shade trees that used to be on that corner were cut down and are being replaced by small, shadeless palms.

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder.
I found it ugly and virtually nobody used it.
As for cutting trees down, I'm always against that.
As I mentioned, I'm not choosing sides, and I really don't know what it will look like after, but I hope that it will be pretty.

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But I hope you are not saying that what we have been looking at for a very long time is more beautiful than what was there before they sent in the wrecking crew.

I thought my statements were pretty clear, that I'm talking about the finished product.

Sorry Rocky

I think we all respect your opinion and insight, but cutting down 100+ year old trees is just bad karma.

I understand there are monetary benefits that I do not begrudge anyone. But what architectural structure have you seen in the DR is actually pleasing to look at. I?d be shocked if they paint the beast.

But then again, maybe they will paint trees on the sides.

I?ll go with the ?6 story cement bunker?.

You were clear, Rocky, about hoping the future park will be pretty. We all want that.

But since you said the former park was ugly, I was interested in knowing what you think of the park now, and has it has been for far too long. Did sending in the wrecking crew years in advance make it better looking and more useable?

Just a test to see how much we differ in our beholder's eye.

They have slapped one coat of paint on part of the building. Now it looks like a partially painted bunker beside a field of weeds and concrete

So you would like to know if I find a construction site and an ugly deforested park, pretty.
Hmmmm.
I have to think about that for awhile.

Yes, Rocky, you said you were against cutting down trees. But since the park formerly was mainly trees and you said the park was ugly, you have to expect some questions.

Seems to me I saw a model of the finished product, at one time, a year or two back.
Maybe it was right here on DR1.
I thought it looked pretty good.
Whether they actually do it or not, is anybody's guess.
As for the unsightly construction site being there for years, it's definitely an eyesore.
And now that Coralillo has issues with the casino owners, it might stay unfinished that much longer.
But, I continue to hope for the best.
Eternally optimistic.

The trees were pretty.
The park was ugly.
It always looked dirty and didn't look maintained.

Are we having fun yet?

Actually, no argument here, just conversation

Yes you said that.

I like to think that because the trees were the first to be killed there is no hope for what is next. Even if they find the mental capacity to build something attractive.

Little late anyway? cow is out of the barn.
