In Higuey, you can find
-cheap kitchen stuff, toiletries, some cheap kitchen appliances, and some other household stuff: Tienda el Unico (off Libertad to the left, across from market) - cheap, ran by Arabs, or Zagul (more expensive) in front of Esso gas station - mainly food
-Food in bulk - Casa de los Compadres, 2 blocks away from the market, off Libertad to teh right first street before the market, for shopping bulk rice, cooking oil, some vegetables (potatoes, garlic, onions, etc.), and all non-perishables. You can save up to 30% compared to supermarket prices
-alcohol: Suplilicores, first street before the market off Libertad (same street that goes to Casa de los Compadres, and Corripio). Good prices - e.g. Chivas Regal 12 yr whiskey at 800 pesos (supermarket prices about 1100 and up) - you do not need to buy bulk most of the stuff
- electronics: Corripio, Iberia. Corripio is on the same street as Casa de los Compadres, first street off Ave Libertad (to the right) before the market
- clothes, and general stuff (food, household items, etc): Supermercado Higueyano (cheaper) or Iberia (more expensive, but bigger and wider selection).
- furniture: there are many MANY stores on Ave Libertad
- house decorations: Supermercado Higueyano (cheaper) and Iberia
For food, this is the ranking, from least expensive to the most expensive:
1) Casa de Los Compadres (mostly bulk buying, non-perishables)
2) Supermercado Higueyano
3) Zagul
4) Iberia
I hope this helps you.
