Hello all!!

Below you will find a real story(sorry, it's in spanish) about a lady who was robbed 18,000 pesos while inside an Apolo Taxi. It explains that the driver of the taxi asked for a second to go to a colmado to buy something. The robbery ocurred while he was at the colmado and to top it up the driver wasn't made responsible for it. After she went trought all the avenues looking for justice; the driver was confronted in court, but happened that the driver is a son of a military and instead of pursuing the case the judge just went on joking and talking to the driver and the father and the case stayed open because of no complicity. She had bruses on her tights and she's traumatized to even go out.

Apolo didn't take responsability, claiming that the taxi drivers are contratisists!

The unit was #67 and it's a gray car.

Watch out!!

My 2 cents!

Please excuse my spelling; I'm at work right now and just wanted to send this as soon as possible.
URGENTE!!

Many Times In The DR,It is NOT What It First Appears To Be!!

On more than a few occasions, people use tthe "I was Robbed" story to try and cover up what really happened to the money!
Say the lost it in a casino, gave it to their lover, bought drugs "Whatever"!
I have heard too many "stories" of people being "robbed" ONLY when they happened to be holding thousands of pesos! Thieves in the DR must be VERY lucky! They alway pick the person carrying thousands!
I believe VERY Little of what I actually "SEE" in the DR,and NONE of what I am told!

Wao Chris!

I got robbed in 1997; 3 houses away from the house I was staying at; it was a nice neighborhood and I had nothing to cover up myself; because I was single at the time and whatever I had on me was absolutly mine. Many of my friends and relatives have been robbed as well in the DR!

I believe that people do cover ups; so they can keep the money to themselves. I was just passing on the information to warn you guys the people living in the DR and the ones visiting; at the end I live in California and could just have read it and don't even botter posting this in here!

I apologize Mr. Colon if I had offended you by posting what I though to be valuable information.

Jesus!!

If I may,
CC's not putting your word in doubt.
He is simply pointing out that the woman who told the story of the robbery, may be lying.
I'm sure he meant no offense to you personally.

But, do you know what?

It's the way some people can post an answer that makes some of us believe we have made a mistake by posting information in here that we think could be helpfull to others.

I must tell you that sometimes when people ask me for help or advise related to the DR; I'm very tempted to tell them that DR1 is the best source to find any type of information with regards to the island; but when I think about certain responses some of us have gotten from some harsh posters; it makes me back up and think twice about referring the site.

I have been around dr1 for a while and really appreciate all the good information I have found in here; but I'm really scare of getting a call from a person telling me bad things because I sent them to search in here and they got fired back by one of the regulars.

and God help me now!

I hear you loud and clear, but this was a simple misunderstanding and not an attack.
Nevertheless, I do understand about unnecessary attacks and the need for those of us who have been members for awhile, to squash the troublemakers.
Conversely, there are a lot of first time posters who act like idiots and just ask for trouble.

Hey Ensalada de Papas, you forgot to add a funny picture to your post. ;)

Your pics on here always made my day, as they were always funny, but I haven't seen you post any since you came back. :)

Hey Perla

My Spanish isn't great and it's late so....I don't feel like reading the article in Spanish right now.

Is it believed that the taxi driver set the robbery up and that's why it occurred?

That would be the contention, and if it went down as the plaintiff claims, it very well may be, but, of course, there's always CC's theory, which is quite possible too.

Don't Worry "PEARL" If I Was "Attacking" (Your Words) You,.

There would be "NO DOUBT" in your mind!!
Perhaps that huge "CHIP" you carry around is clouding your perception???????

I wasn't sure if the laws were a little different down there. If the guy went into the colmado and she got robbed what does that have to do with the price of tea in China??

But no.... that was the allegation... he set it up.

We're all on the same page now.. theoretically. :)

It really wasn't made very clear in that news report, but that seems to be the contention, as the taxi driver allegedly wanted to stop at that colmado to buy something, at which point the plaintiff was attacked and robbed.

1) it could have been a set up.
2) it could have been as you mentioned above.
3) She may have stolen the money herself and made up the story.

Nevertheless- Apollo is a great service

They seem to be the one thing that REALLY works in this country- they can find you no matter where you are and always seem to have a car there in the "tres minutos" that they promise. When I first got here, I would just walk around and get completely lost then call Apollo and pass my phone to the nearest Dominican to explain where I was. Their cars are always clean and in good repair and lots have air conditioning. The drivers are courteous. They don't lean on their horns or try to run down other drivers or pedestrians. I have honestly never - not in NYC or Boston or London- ever seen such great service. Whoever is running this company ought to take a really big bow!! (And all for under $5 bucks - no matter how long you are stuck in traffic ---- really, I love these guys!-- why would I want a car in the Capital?)
