When I was in PP in April there was a building falling down on Calle Beller across from the north west corner of Parque Central. I just heard today that it is still in the process of falling down. This is a hazard for people walking by on the sidewalk. The second story is leaning over the street.
The second storey was
largely removed (or fell!) after a lot of kerfuff in the local press - this was a couple of months back. If you do a search of back issues of El Faro online you'll find the saga. The ground floor was a shop which sold tourist stuff. That has now been closed. Maybe the merchandise has been moved to another shop - I don't know. When I say 'largely' removed I mean the back of the second floor was removed but some of the front was left remaining - I suspect due to 'patrimonial cultural' issues (law relating to preservation of frontispieces of historical buildings
), but I don't know for sure.
Another building which is falling down is the birthplace of Gregorio Luperon on 12 de Julio - you could have walked past this many times without realising what it was. I took a pic and sent it to Puerto Plata Digital, click on link immediately under the pic for enlarged version which shows you how dilapidated the building really is. For those who don't know where it is, it's opposite Libreria Ripol on 12 de Julio, not far from Post Office.

Perhaps the biggest concern at the moment lies between Puerto Plata and Sosua, on the main road with a lot of traffic happily driving over it every day :ermm:. Puente Cangrejos which, if you'll forgive the pun, is getting crabbier every day. Over 50 years old and some feel it is about to disintegrate any minute. Click on photos here for enlargements:

The water feature isn't an ornamental fountain but a hole in the pipes.
