Be careful with translations. If you are using them to try to understand Spanish better that is much more preferable to translating something from English to Spanish for a Spanish speaker/reader.

Case in point, My aunnt who lives in N Charleston SC is a grade school teacehr who has many Mexican children in her classes. Up until recently she had been using an online translator to translate notes that she wanted the kids to take to their parents about all sorts of subject. In any event, when we were together last October, she showed me one of the translations and asked me what I thought. I looked at it and read it and it basically said "We want you to give us permission to have your child go with us to the woods/country to shoot".

Nonetheless, she was quite flabbergasted to learn that she was sending stuff like this home to her children's parents and decided it might be better to find a translator or maybe start studying Spanish a little more herself.

It's true that the Google translator is better than Babel-Fish.....but there's still better available. Try http://imtranslator.com/

I'm not sure that it is better. If you look at the Google translation of the proposed text and the translation by ImTranslator I still vote for Google.

From ImTranslator
The president Leonel Fern?ndez arranged yesterday the entire eviction notice of residents in approximately 36 communities of the country who are in danger of floods for the possible rebosamiento of the preys. The Government also decided to request the international help of countries friends, principally in teams qualified for the persons' rescue, between which they represent helicopters.

The best option is to learn Spanish. Buy a simple grammar book at Barnes and Nobles for US20 and start from the beginning to the end. Once one has the grammar basics and sentence structure understood, one can easily translate even somewhat complicated articles/sentances. Expect to be able to do that within a year. Think about how much time one usually ponders/dreams about learning a new language - if one just dedicated a small amount of time during that same time period of "dreaming" to actually studying they would have learned a great deal of the language, enough so as to act as the basics towards becoming fluent.

Also, if one ever has the possiblity to immerse themselves in a Spanish speaking country such as the DR, the basics will help one to eventually learn to speak - as the brain will be able to make "sense" of what it is hearing, little by little. Those who learn to speak a foreign language by listening can only go so far - they will never be able to communicate on a complex level or integrate themselves completely. Not only that, learning to speak solely by listening actually much more difficult than the standard, yet boring way, of studying grammar.
