Yes very well known - he had about 6 streets named after him. Labour leader in the port workers union, he fought in the April war. He was a fierce protector of the underdog. Came up against Trujillo & Balaguer. He died in 1991 seemingly under mysterious circumstances. There is a brief biography on this Hoy article which also lists his children so you might be able to locate your father/mother on this list:
