Run a search for 'healthcare plans' and there are

over 4000 possible threads!:surprised
Estrella plus itself comes up with 307!!!
Health insurance is just as bad......
I don't want to spend the six months I'm here reading threads to find the info I'm asking for.
If you can suggest better search terms I'd appreciate it greatly....

Also answers to my questions would be welcomed!:glasses:

Here's the two best threads I've found so far!!

This one should be a sticky!!!!

http://www.dr1.com/forums/living/63267-websites-health-insurance-providers.html

This one is not bad either!

Now could anyone give me approximate costs for the Platinum Plan at Humano ARS?

Also if anyone knows which plans cover Cedimat. I see a lot of them cover Plaza de la Salud but don't see Cedimat listed. I do believe they are separate institutions and would like to find something that covers both if possible.

I am paying ~$17K every 6 months which includes Dental with Salud Bucal. If you pay total annual premium due you receive a 10% discount ($34K less 10%). If recall the dental coverage is ~$5K additional/yr. Pleased with my coverage. Accepted almost everywhere.

I use ARS Univesal "Optimo".
I pay 500 pesos a month ("bucal" included), yes, that's USD15.oo a month. It's a group insurance thru the Club de Residentes Internacionales of Sosua.

I don't expect much from it, except to be admitted and to be dealt with like a local.
Yesterday I used it for the first time. I have a very bad cough and some fever and felt pressure on my lungs.
So, I went to Centro Medico Burnigal. At information they sent me to two Doctors who where not present, so, I proceeded to find me one myself, going door to door. I was first seen by an "eye" doctor in a military uniform who also seems to doubles as throat doc. He prescribed a chest X-ray... copay: DOP 200.oo
I went to the office to arrange for the X-ray, copay: DOP 99.oo
Smiled into the camera and went on to chase down a specialist for my lungs and found one who just came in. He checked me out for 30 minutes... prescribed antibiotics and some other stuff that has me real drowsy right now. Copay: DOP 200.oo
Medicines: DOP 475.oo
And I am starting to feel much better all that for about 975 pesos.

I am quite satisfied so far.

I have US insurance with a high deductible ($5kUS). If anything minor goes wrong I just pay to see a doctor locally, its very cheap anyways, maybe only RD$1000 to see a top doctor.

If its something serious, I want to be med-evaced to the US and treated in a US hospital. My insurance will cover that kind of serious stuff up to several million $US. It costs maybe US$800-$1k/year. I haven't ever used it.

Personally I wouldn't bother with high end dominican health insurance, but I know others feel differently.

Thanks for the replies so far......

Wud ...I want a DR one! A Canadian insurance to cover us for the winter would see us staying at home!!! (I have a friend here from our city who bought Canadian insurance twice and decided to pass on it and get DR insurance only to discover they didn't qualify because they are both over 65-just- but because they have never had DR insurance couldn't get it!)

Adrian- after what I went through while PapaTony was in hospital for two weeks this Feb. and what I've gone through trying to get our 'Ontario Health Insurance Plan' to cover even part of the cost.....I want a GOOD DR policy!

When you start getting up there it's time to 'take care of business' and pay the piper for service that you just might need.

After our experience this year I know that we'd feel comfortable being treated for most things here.

Do you have to be an official "Resident" before you can you get coverage by a DR company. Or if you have applied will you be ok?

I think you quote $800 to $1,000 a year for the US coverage. That seems very very low to me. Who do you have your coverage with. I am paying $900 per month and have a $5,000 deductible with Blue Cross of Texas.

I got this message via PM.

My insurance broker is : INTERNATIONAL OVERSEAS MEDICAL HEALTH INSURANCE. My actual insurance policy is with SRI (now Seven corners): SRI - Specialty Risk International, Inc.. They are backed by Lloyds. I haven't ever tried to collect on insurance so I have no idea if there are payment problems or not. Has anyone here used them?

Getting back on track.......

I'll re-iterate.....

Does anyone have the ARS Estrella Plus seguro??

If so....is it a good policy?

Can anyone suggest a good plan other than this one??

I realize it is a little more difficult now with many clinics and medicos refusing to participate due to the SFS however there must be some of you that have good coverage!

I have Humano Ars. And Cedimat is always covered bij this insurance.
I go always to Plaza de la Salud. And Humano Ars is no problem there.

Excellent responses!!

Thank you.....this is the type of response I was hoping for.

We were considering Humano but if Estrella Plus cover Plaza de la Salud and Cedimat we'll go with them.

Thanks again Rubio and Andre!!
