The 8700c 8700g, and 8700r all appear to be quad band. You need to look at your phone for the full model number and if it is one of those 3 you will simply need it unlocked. Then you can purchase a SIM card and use it there.

I was in the D.R. (santiago) in October. My 8800 worked perfectly. I was getting emails, sending text and making/receiving calls no problem.

My partners experience as well.He had no problems at all, even in Jarabacoa.

If I could only get my Motorola Q (work phone) from Verizon US to work in The DR. I miss my old crappy Nokia from AT&T which worked perfectly with the Orange network. I've tried calling customer service before I go and they tell me it should work, but it never does. I would have thought that since Claro used to be Verizon it should work. Anybody has any tips...
