It fluctuates between 24 and 26 to 1. As for the goods, depends on what you want to buy. What would you want to buy in the DR that you can't buy at home? Cheers,

Depends on what you buy. Excursions vary between US25.00 and US100.00 depending on type. As for presents, anywhere between RD$50.00 and RD$500.00+. Have a nice vacation.

You are better off bringing $USD as they are easier to change. Especially if you are planning on travelling around the island.

Re: ? Exchange Rate Barcelo Hotels

it is better to have a few us$ handy but you can change your english pounds in virtualy every hotel so you dont get charged two comminsions I go to the dr for 3 months every year and allways used to use the hotel"talanquera bank"in Juan Dolio because it gave the best rate of exchange in that area but since barcelo has taken over in January of this year the rate dropped to 17 pesos to ?1 when outside in the chocalate bar and elswhere were offering 23 to 25 pesos. Just want to know if this poor rate of exchange is normal for the barcelo chain of hotels

Re: ? Exchange Rate Casa de cambio

I live here in Santo Domingo. I stopped at a casa de cambio at
Avenida Francia #80, across from the Executive Suites Apartments.
I was quoted, today, RD$22.15 for 1 British pound. That seems
a little low but I do not keep current on the pounds' value as
compared to the US$. If this helps any, the US$ is worth
RD$ 16.20. My bank, Bancredito, offers RD$16.10 for 1 US$.
Remember, always, always, ALWAYS know in advance what rate you
should be getting from the casas de cambio AND always count the
amount you get from the cashier. They are known to make small
adding errors. This has happened to me on 2 of the 3 occasions
I have used the casas. There was never any hesitation to correct
the cashiers "error". If you want to exchange money other than
US$ at most banks, you probably will have to go to a main branch
of the bank. The bank near where I live would not so much as
tell me the British pound exchange rate (they were having a
typically busy Friday, though). I hope this helps. Enjoy your
holiday.
