For those of you wishing to bring high priced items to the DR, the DGA (customs) has raised the allowance to $2,500 US Dollars for the 2007 holiday season. From now until January 7, 2008, any items that you bring in your luggage, up to a maximum value of $2,500 USD are exempt from duties.

In previous years, the allowance was $1,000 USD.

I was under the impression that this only applied to returning Dominicans.

Previously they had to be out of the country for 6 months or more to qualify, but they also lifted that requirement for this year due to TS Noel.

Also was not sure if this also applied to legal permanent residents.
Fortunately for me my wife is Dominican and will be returning with me.

So we either have a $2,500 limit or $5,000 limit. ;)
