I've been reading the forum for quite a while now as I get ready to move the DR. but after talking to a friend, I'm starting to have second thoughts about "how friendly" the people in DR really are.
I am an african-american. and from what I've heard, the dominicans have such hatred and discrimination against haitians there, that anyone who is black can be considered to be haitian and treated as such.

I've been told that I need to always have my passport with me, or risk being deported if I cannot prove I`m an american ! or some bars can sometimes refuse entrance or to serve people simply because they are black.

I'm starting to wonder if these experiences are random, or is it really the culture there to discriminate against anyone who is black. I visited the DR a few times as a tourist and I guess I did not stay long enough to experience this.
does anyone know if this is really a widespread thing ?

thanks for you input !
