Permission comes from Direccion General Forestal. The documents you will need depend on the reason for cutting down the tree (e.g. to build a house, because it is dangerous etc). Look at the 7 subsections under Corte de Arboles here & click on the appropriate one:
Medio Ambiente en l?nea - Recursos forestales

Let's say your reason is because you are clearing land to build. Click on 'Con fines de construcci?n de viviendas' and up comes:
Medio Ambiente en l?nea - Corte de ?rboles con fines de construcci?n de viviendas
Go to Requisitos for a list of what you'll need. You have to sign the solicitud even if someone else writes it (if your Spanish isn't quite up to it yet).

I think you're in Sosua? In which case you'll need the Subgerencia Puerto Plata which is at the sea end of Hermanas Mirabel, turn right into Calle Bello Costero Long Beach, near Politur offices. Tel. (809) 586-7761 Fax: (809) 586-7761

Did not notice anything on the site if the tree is mostly dead.

So, 'naturelover' is cutting down the tree because it is large and has a lot of yellow fruit.

Well, pick up the fruit, put it in the compost but don't go cutting down trees just because they are large and bear fruit.

A dead tree is far easier to get permission to cut down than a live one - that is why lots of people poison or damage their trees before applying for permission.

Another key factor in DR law is distance from water sources, as well as the gradient and altitude of the land, though in Sosua that shouldn't be an issue.

DGF should give you permission, but why do you want to cut it down anyway? Are the fruits not tasty?

im still wading through it than you lambi...........the tree is higher than the house and leaning at an angle towards it ...so its not just the fruit problem
