Smile Calling all you good people

    Hi,

My name is Andy, I have used these boards as an excellent source of information over the past few years on various issues but have just got round to registering an account. I am 24 from the UK (Newcastle) and first visited the Dominican Republic in June 2004 where I met my beautiful wife to be.

I have since been back and forth to the Dominican many times and we were married there on 7th September 2005 at the Coral Marien in Costa Dorada.

My wife and I have been back in the UK since December 2005 however her family are still in the Dominican Republic and live in Sabeneta. As you know life there can be hard at times especially when you don’t have much money available and jobs seem hard to come by. This is when I thought about you guys.

I know a lot of you have homes here and employ staff for various means, so since my mother-in-law and brother-in-law are both out of work but actively seeking employment I wonder if anyone one knows anyone who needs any staff out there?

They are wonderful people and can certainly be counted on. We help them out as much as we can but they don’t like to ask and would like the chance to earn themselves.

If anyone has anything or knows someone who has, and would like someone they can rely on and trust, then please let me know so I can pass on their details.

Also my father-in-law is job seeking and was head chef at a major AI hotel up until recently but has since been made redundant. So again any leads would be much appreciated.

Thanks again for this wonderful forum.

Edit: I thought to post here as opposed to the Employment board as its really just an introduction and not a specific job profession request rather just a "if you know anyone" type Hope this is ok.

I hate to say this, but there is nothing you can do from there except send money on monthly basis. There aren't any jobs in that area and if there are any jobs, they pay very little. This is what you get when you fall in love with just anyone and then get stuck with monthly payments to family when you marry her.
    Good luck.

Talking For some reason this joke...........

    ............keeps popping into my head!:

A guy walks into the local welfare office, marches straight up to the counter and says, "Hi, you know, I just hate drawing welfare. I'd really rather have a job." The social worker behind the counter says, "your timing is just excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful nymphomaniac daughter. You'll have to drive around in his Mercedes, but he'll supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll be expected to escort her on her overseas holiday trips. You will have to satisfy her sexual urges. You'll be provided a two bedroom apartment above the garage. The starting salary will be $300,000. per year." The guy, wide eyed, says, "You're bull ****ting me..!" The social worker says, "You started it."

That would surely make your wife happy!

I've only been back for a short time but from what I can see, jobs are very scarce. Living in Sabaneta doesn't help as it involves travelling every day. ($$ & time). If your father-in-law was a indeed a head chef at an AI hotel and has good references, he should apply to the AI's in Cabarete/Sosua area. It is the beginning of the "High Season" and I'm sure he will find something. As for the other 2, they wil have to be pretty lucky.

Yeah jobs do seem to be very scarce at the minute. If anyone does hear of anything though would be great to here about it.

I've thought about them coming to UK but they don't want to they seem happy in Domincan Republic, and im sure something will come up eventually.
