Staying at Hotel Brisas del Yacque in Jaribacoa for 100DOP, and wonder if there is any similar accommodation available in the centre of Costanza?

Also, is the road open from Costanza to San Jose del Ocoa, with publicos or caminos operating on the route?

Thanks in advance

Do I understand this correctly?
A nice hotel room with hot water, cable TV, fridge, balcony etc, for $3 US/night? (100 pesos)

for 1000 pesos its not a problem finding accomodation in Constanza. We stayed at a very nice and friendly hotel, clean, hot water, 24h electricity, with a great restaurant (not included) just across for 800 pesos double. Forgotten the name though, some 5 blocks up from the gas-station at the entrance, three blocks to the right from the central plaza. Otherwise. Constanza is not big, so just ask around. Bring a sweater - it gets cool at night.

Good travels

This summer, we stayed at the...

Hotel Aguas Blancas in Constanza. The rooms were small, but they were spotless. We felt very safe, and the folks who run it were very nice. It's convenient to everything. Expect to pay about U.S. $18 per night (for two people). It's behind the Aguas Blancas restaurant, which is apparently the "best" restaurant in town. We thought it was overpriced.

Be sure to drop by the Comedor Luisa, a tiny family run restaurant next to the baseball field. Great food at ridiculously cheap prices.

By the way, we also stayed at the Brisas in Jarabacoa. It was another good bargain. Despite some warnings on this site, mostly about the conditions of the road, we took the guagua from Jarabacoa to Constanza. It was great fun -- and dirt cheap. Had it been raining, I suspect the ride would have been a little more hair-raising.

One more thing -- you don't necessarily have to take a publico or guagua to another town from Constanza. It's possible a taxi will bring you there for pocket change. Be sure to ask.

The san Jose - constanza road is notoriously dangerous, and no guaguas go near there. Only traffic really is military vehicles (some random army base up there). Best option is to exit the mountains on the Bonao road (guagua to Abanico), then go round the south and back up to San Jose
