According to some anthropologists, the "congos" of Villa Mella have ties to West African folk traditions. They are, if you do a search on DR1 News, part of UNESCO's World Heritage...

The sounds are very reminiscent of certain styles of local African music. There is a difference for sure and the difference is in a funky thing that they do with the rythms, but the similarities are huge.

The Palo is very popular in Washington Heights...and carries alot of influences in it also in fact I don't haven't seen any Haitians or Dominico Haitainos participating at all in any of the circles I have witnesses only Dominicans...in to it...Also the Dominican Yorks are into the Cuban Drumming...((Congo/Yoruba) influenced) and Cubano son y Mambo..
