waterfalls near Puerto Plata

Can anyone give me the details on the waterfall tours I've heard about near Puerto Plata? Best time of year to go ...costs ...what exactly is offered ...etc.

I'm tyring to get some trips to different parts of the island planned out for '08 and this is something I've heard about and wanted to do.

Most of the tours are great. You have a choice of 7-12 or 24 falls. 7 is enough for most people. Lots of walking, swimming and climbing. Bring water shoes. The guide are great, but you need to be in shape and be a reasonable swimmer.

Is there any cliff jumping? Is swimming optional? Is Mel's tours based out of Cabarete?

Cliff jumping is pretty much how you get back down. They give you life vests and the guide will try to pull you, but if you can't swimm I wouldn't go. It's not a real easy trip.
