Hi to all Pokerplayerfriends,
as yesterday it was the second time that i have seen with my own eyes that on the Texas Hold'em tables in the Casino at Playa Chiquita in Sosua that the cashpots are not at end of a game as they should be, i decide to post this thread in the DR1 forum.
As many of you know there are daily NoLimit Pokergames going on. I am refering to the tournamentgames where everybody pay 1000 Peso to play.
The normally commision that they charge is 15% and additionally 5% for some pricepot. So 20% en total. I was sitting right next to the dealer and i am 100% sure that the cashpot for this game was 14000 Pesos. At the end of the game there was only one winner and he got only 9500 Peso. BUT there must be 11.200 for the winner as 20% from 14000 is 2800. Where are the 1700 gone?
I am not stupid and i was not drinking at all, just calling attention to that game. I personally suspect the thiny dealer that was actuating as Supervisor, as on our table the dealer was the girl with the glasses. He passed by and took the money away to count it and at the end the pot descreased.
I got one times trouble for the same reason with one of the adminstrators and they did not allow me to play for some weeks in that casino. They told me that time that i was not one of the winners so it is not of my business. Yesterday i was not one of the winners either so i did not start a discussion
as few months ago. I just left the Casino.
Maybe some of you can tell me where i can play poker without having fears to get frauded. I do not care when they prohibe me the entrance to that casino again, but when nobody says nothing it will go on and i do not think that this is fair.
It's only about 1700 Pesos???? Let's calculate. In average they are playing daily 8 to 10 tables. And the missing pot money is arround 1500 each game. This means at least 110.000 to 150.000 Pesos a month. The administrators are playing by themselves on that tables and they should see when some fraud is going on or not. Are they involved? I don't know but can there be so blind? Well, i am not, i know what i've seen yesterday and onetimes few months ago.
I know that my english skills are not perfect and hopefully every reader of this thread can understand it.
Thanks for your answers and have a nice day.

I forgot to tell:
That the first time, few months ago, when this was happening it was the same thinny dealer from the mainpokertable that is usually working there.

I have a couple comments and/or questions:

1) if it was 1000 to enter and the total pot was 14,000 RD, that means that there was 14 players. And they pay only one winner? This must have been a two table tournament and its very unusual to only have one winner, unless of course it was specifically specified a 'winner take all' tournament which I have not seen here before. So maybe the missing money was for 2nd place and they were holding it for the guy who got 2nd, or maybe that guy owed money to the casino so they just used it to pay on his account. If it was a 'winnner take all' tournament, why did the winner not complain?

2) I know the manager of the casino there, I am sure if you talk to her about this she would be very open to your concern. Her name is Valentina, I am sure she will listen to your complaint. She speaks good english, german, or spanish.

3) The best action for Texas Holdem Poker are Ocean Sands at Cabarete and Ocean World Casino near Puerto Plata. Ocean World hosts many tournaments including US$100 buy-ins Tuesdays and Saturdays at 7pm, with about 10 to 22 players. OWCasino pays out the first two spots with a one table tournament and the first 3 spots in a two table tournament. OWCasino also hosts quarterly US$500 tournaments, next one March 15th, with about 70 to 100 players. And also the World Poker Showdown with all kinds of tournaments May 9-18.

throw me a PM if you have any questions about TxHoldem on the north coast.

good luck

Answer

We where 8 players from the beginning on the side table. 4 Rebuys and one round before the blinds would raise up the other players enjoined ur game with each 1000 pesos more. Y was counting together with the young lady dealer the 12.000 Pso and two players more make 14.000. We where playing two differnt tournamets on each table anotherone.
I do know Valentina for more than 10 years but she was playing on the other table not on ours. She was also in that game few months ago but she told me that she was not checking the dealer as she wants to stay focussed on the game. (Make sense) Also Armando at this time was on the table and he started to jelling me and forbid me the further visit to the Casino. I have not Armando seen yesterday there.
The missing money was not for the 2nd position as there was ONLY one winner, When you go there often you maybe know him a french thinny guy. Maybe he was not paying attention to the cash on that table. I was.

Thankyou for the information that there will be new tournaments at oceansands. But for me its too far to drive from Sosua to Cofresi every time when I want to play a pokergame. I was tehre several times and never i found enough player to play with. Only Stefan was there *lol* and he gets so much credit there it really hard to beat him. What is about Steven in Sosua? Why nobody is going there?
I would apreciate when some of the players sometimes tell me where they go to play as Gary, Joe, Paul, Chip, Tom.

BUT one thing you can be sure that the dealers in Playa Chiquita do not pay the pot as they should. I do not believe that Valentina or Armando do get some money out from this, but as i wrote i suspect the thinny dealer as i heard this from different peolpe now. However it was important that someone wrote about it. Yesterday i was there and i have seen it with my own eyes so nobody can tell me what is the truth i know it.
Thanks for your answer.

No, no, he is not threatening you. He is telling you to be cautious .. be careful with what you are saying. You're getting the English wrong. No threats.

"I would apreciate when some of the players sometimes tell me where they go to play as Gary, Joe, Paul, Chip, Tom."

That would be me :). Feel free to tap me on the shoulder on Friday at the cash game at PC if you want to chat.

I would say that PC runs a clean game. While I don't generally play the tournament game, I can vouch for the cash game as being clean at PC. That being said, I don't see much benefit in the casino ruining its rep as a clean game by deliberately overcharging tournaments. Accidents and pot miscalculations, however, can happen. Speak with Valentina about it and make your concerns known.

As an aside, I have to ask: if your complaint is making the management ban you, is it possible that it's the way you're complaining, rather than what you're complaining about? I've seen some people become fairly offensive complaints at that casino, and the management takes in in stride and doesn't ban them.

See you soon!

Joe

Thanks to all users from Dr1.com that had replied to that article.
Also thanks to the administration from the Casino Playa Chiquita for your thread.

I will not repeat now what is already written, and for all this there would be a nice and easy solution. Why they do not leave the money in the tournaments over the table? On the end of each game they should show how much is the entire pot, then they should take away their 20% commision, and distribute the rest of the money to the winners.
There is no need that the dealers take money while the game is going on. The casino is offering a nice service and free quality drinks, so its normal that in the small tournament games (aprox. 30 Usd Buy-In) they have to charge their commision otherwise it will be not a business for them.

Again, i am sure that the young lady, that was our dealer did NOT took some money away, she was too busy with the game, as she is not so expirienced dealer but doing better and better each time, also there was nobody from the administration involved in the game on our table to see or to check if i am wrong or not.

What every pokerplayer want's is to have fun and a nice game, sometimes you loose some money sometimes you win. As i am usually a quiet guy it was not in my mind to start a discussion inside the Casino again.
To Joe: I was not writing this thread as Revenge or something like that. I just do have the right when i am puting my money on the table, to get, if i am a winner, that potsize that was played on that table and not less. (reducing their commision of course).
The first time when this was happening the administration introduced an additional control where they put for each 1000 Peso a red cip in a seperated part. So when you ask the dealer how much is the potsize it is easy for him and the player to check it. The dealer has not to touch the money anymore and hassle arround with the bills. Just piles to 5 chips each, easy to see for every one. This is the reason why i am sure that there where 12.000 in the pot, before the 2 other gamers enjoined us for the last buy-In round.
However i hope that the administration will keep an eye of that as they do have the responsibility for their employees and for the future i wish every gamer
Happy Poker-Playing

I just returned from 6 days playing in the tournaments at Playa Chiquita. I have been playing there 4 years now. Never had I had an issue, nor did I have an issue during this trip. 20% is taken out from the pot with rounding to the nearest 500 pesos. The dealers are EXCELLENT and do a great job of running the game.

To answer another question, it is technically one winner, but we always chop it whether in half or in some reasonable split based on chip counts.

By far, my favorite part of my trip to Sosua each year is my trips to the casino. Everyone there is a pleasure to deal with and Valentina is a top notch manager.

Very sorry to hear anyone had a problem, but over 6 days and about 20-30 tournaments we had no issues at all.

just remember it is the dominican republic, and it is gambling...

there is no watch dog group in the dr......

you may just have to find that place you "feel" comfortable and keep going there..

dont fight the tide..it never works

we all know corruption is prevalent in the DR......it is foolishness to think it doesnt permeate into the casinos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

who will punish a Casino raking in millions of $.......... ha ha ha ha

they love golden geese down there...

I felt Comfortable with a regular large casino until I saw the a Pit Boss rig the roulette table, right in front of all the players.

in reality....why not...what will anyone do??

wow at 20% there is no need to steal any further

get serious Conchman... and go look up the word GREED in the dictionary!

as a side note I was suprised years ago when my brother who was then managing the Cherokee Indians Casino in NC for Harras, told me they are only allowed to make 16 or 17% of the total handled. They had to pay out the rest by law.

I thought the casinos were making like 75% up to that point.....

just goes to show you how MUCH is actually gambled.

Dear mkdomrep,

I?m not a poker player, but I?m glad you posted the incident. I bet the administrator of casino will pay attention to the dealer now. One of the things that I had learned about DR is that unless you make you concerns public they will not pay attention you.

Good luck and I hope that if there is a problem they will correct it.
