Default corruption rife dont trust anyone

I thought i would write this after reading some of the nonsense printed on this web site.A brief history i have been in this country for 7 years on and off i work offshore so 2 months away 1 here in santo domingo.I have lived all over santo domingo and the island also in the last 7 years.I have a wife and two lovely daughters here and are currently living in a so called good area of santo domingo ha ha no such thing .In the last 7 years we have been ripped off for money more times than i care to remember. The thing that makes me laugh is this belief that people here are sociable good people god give me a break man.In my experience from the top of goverment to the local police man on the street corruption is rife.I work in a very corrupt nation in africa and they have nothing on the nastys that live here.In this country i have learnt to my expense money ie peso is all people care about here .Even familys do not trust each other when it comes to money .There is no hope of any help offth police when crimes are commited against you.Example my wife had a gun put to her head at a bank cash machine in full view of a so called dominican policeman what happend she handed the money over which was no doubt shared with the policeman. My passport was stolen in another incident i had topay corrupt police to even report it in one day no dinero would of took 5 or 6 days .Ive been ripped off by police taxis restaurants lawyers even so called church reps basicaly dominicans will rip you off if they think you have money. It is not important were you are my house has been broken in to twice last year luckily we wernt there its well known here for the robbers to shoot first then loot.My wife was held up in a public taxi 1 month ago .She got in the taxi because there was 2 pregnant women in the back little did she know they were the partners of the driver and passenger. They proceeded to take her id passport all her moneyand even her shoes bear in mind my wife is dominican not european so if you are thinking of coming here to live or even holiday what ever you do do nottrust the locals no matter how nice they seem always remember money is the first and last thing on any of these peoples minds .Thank god all our documents are sorted out and were off to england.

I wish you good luck, which you clearly did not have during your 7 year stint here.

I understand why you are upset for sure. However, my experiance in Santiago has been much different thankfully. Yes, Domincans will take advantage of you monetarily if they think you can but once you know how to research prices, etc it really isn't a real problem. Also, being able to speak the language fluently enough is important to not be seen as an outsider and one really needs to have a cuņa in the police deprtment or military, no doubt about it. Nonetheless good luck in England.

Maybe it will be for them.
The DR is not for everyone.
Some people just run into one obstacle after another, and others find paradise here.

Maybe it will, maybe it wont.

One thing is sure, if his experience in England goes "less than expected", he probably won't be ranting about it in some online forum.

To Vinnie, do you still trust your DOMINICAN wife?

Please, explain your answer, since according to you, NO Dominican is trustworthy.

    He was exaggerating a bit.

Wonder if he did ever get his residencia...... also wonder if he has read the current crime stories in the UK where there is a huge amount of crime against children and young people.
