Default Why do you choose to live in the Dominican Republic on a permanent basis?

What are the best aspects of living in the Dominican Republic? What are the worst aspects of living in the Dominican Republic?

For myself, an American, the best thing about living in the D.R. is being amongst people that donīt take themselves so very seriously.

The worst....they donīt take me seriously either.

Am I in deja-vue mode or have we not answered this (or a very similar question) before? Forgive me if I'm having a senior moment...............

This might answer some of the OP's question:

& did you receive my PM answer to yours a few weeks ago - subject was Cedula as I recall. Not heard anything back from you so suspect you are just asking as many questions as possible without investigating the 'Search' function too much.

May I STRONGLY recommend the posts from previous knowledgable people on the subjects you are asking for info on? That way you will get a very good cross section of responses & thoughts for you to mull over! ~ Grahame.

    I used to think:

    Best: Cost of living
    Worst: Cost of leaving

But now it might be the other way around...

    Default My two cents

For me the best is the value still placed nf family, especially children. People love kids here, they are still seen as special and wonderful. With that, the community still looks out for them, there is still a sense of looking out for one another. For the most part, people will go out of their way to help.

The ability to be on beautiful beaches one day, and a cool mountain range the next tubing down a river is also great!

I love the opportunity to eat fresh fruits, vegetables and meat everyday at relatively low cost. I love playing tennis or going to the pool almost everyday. I am the healthiest I have ever been mentally, physically, and emotionally. The conditions are ripe for leading a truly balanced life.

Music and dance have always been a big part of my life, so being in a culture where that is a part of the fiber is terrific.

It's the best to be able to let loose sometimes and goto a casino, drink some good rum, and smoke a wonderfully fresh cigar without having to hope on a plane to get there.

The worst is the poor public transportation options coupled with very high costs of automobiles and gas. Lack of cutural opportunities beyond the local culture. The traffic within Santo Domingo. The potholes within Santo Domingo and throughout the country.

So, the best far outwieghs the worst!!!
