Dont play slots, if you play the table games watch the payouts carefully and dont drink too much. There is no casino control commission to ensure fair payouts.

Cabarete's Casino has a decent NL game on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wed is a $100 buy in tournament, followed by the cash game. Saturdays I believe to be just a cash game.

Playa Chiquita in Sosua has a decent cash game on Fridays

Stakes are 100/200 pesos, which works out to be a 3/6 game, but it plays somewhat larger than that.

Good luck.

Is the 3/6 at Playa Chiquita a limit or NL game?

Try Wish restaurant in CABRERA, the town I thought you asked about. It's a total surprise for a town that small. Good but pricey.
La Catalina hotel has a decent restaurant. Nice landscaping below the balcony.

Sorry, should have been clearer:

Both games are NL Texas Hold 'em. Blinds are 100/200 pesos ( about $3/6)

Wednesday's game at Cabarete (Ocean Sands Casino) generally gets two full tables for the $100 no rebuy tournament and at least a full ring for the cash game. Cash game starts as soon as enough players get bumped from the tournament (generally 4 people is the starting point). Often there won't be enough seats left at the cash game for the last few out of the tournament, so a few players (like myself) will generally skip the tournament in favour of being assured a seat at the cash game in case they don't start up a second cash table. They've recently hyped up the blind structure of the tournament so that the blinds go up prohibitively fast -- it's become even more of a all-in fiesta. Tournament starts at 9PM I believe.

Friday's game at Playa Chiquita is a smaller game in terms of number of players, but will often play a full ring. Action is not as wild as the Wednesday game at Ocean Sands, but it plays big regardless. Get there at or before 10PM to be assured a seat -- the game normally starts 9:30ish.

For both these games, consider bringing your money with you in cash, rather than bank machine card or credit card, as cash advances on credit cards can get expensive and bank machines are unfortunately not as reliable as they are back home.

Note that small stakes tournaments ($30 rebuy) are common at Playa Chiquita as well.

Note as well that there are several players looking for a $10/25 game, so if you're intersted, let me know.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Joe

I will be staying at the Riu in POP. Where are the closest Hold em games and when? Do they have cards rooms in the casino's in Puerto Plata?
