One of the most famous is Dr. Rafael Cantizano. Well into his 80, Dr. Cantizano still practices, and receives a fairly limited number of patients. His Daughter, also an MD, assists him. he now has grand kids that are or will soon be, doctors. quite a guy. He is as close as i have to being my doctor.
He is at the Centro Medico Cibao, on Juan Pablo Duarte in Santiago, across from the Colegio Sagrado Corazon de Jesus and the Texaco Station. First floor, past the reception desk, first door on your left, first office on the left. First come, first served. You can call for an appointment, I do believe.

Cardiologist

My friend is seeking a second opinion from a cardio specialist, does anyone have any suggestions or first hand knowledge? The current doctor is at Bornigal Clinic in Puerto Plata. Any assistance as always is much appreciated.

HB--I know that phone books are available in the Capital, but I've just asked a few people in SPM (none of us have landlines--so that is not a fair sample) and none of us have even seen a phone book (I have a medical yellow pages and that is it; of course it is somewhat limited in who is listed).

So, if you have extra phone books, the next time you are on a "honey run" down here, maybe I could bum a phone book from you?

Seriously, phone books are not as common as one would think at least on our end. Yes, they exist but even my professional colleagues (and within the NPH clinic) have most of their lines as cell phones. Landlines are just really hard to come by, expensive and honestly not terribly reliable with all the construction (not that our cells are reliable either;)

I dislocated my knee this past weekend and would like to see a specialist in SDQ. My Spanish is limited so English speaking is a plus but not a necessity.

Thanks

?Gracias!

Thank you SO very much for this link. I'll spread the word about it among those I queried regarding the phone books.

Any idea what percentage of practitioners are actually listed in the yellow pages? Back when I was an undergrad in the US, there was still a taboo about advertising for practitioners. It was outright prohibited by the AMA for many years; thereafter considered less than 'professional' for many more. Although now in most areas the advertising is hot and aggressive both in print and sound media. TIA!:bunny::bunny::bunny:

When looking for a doctor, if you don't have a name, I would start by calling the better private hospitals (clinica) in your area and inquiring about a doctor to address your particualr needs. (illness, injury, language requirements, etc.)

In Santo Domingo, CEDIMAT has no equal, so I would call them. In Santiago, Las Corominas, Centro Medico Cibao, Union Medica and now HOMS are good places to call.
