Dominican Passports

My novia has her visa interview next month in Santo Domingo.

She already has a 3-year old DR passport. It has enough time on it.

Some people (Dominicans) have told her she must replace it with a new style passport to travel to the US. I see nothing about having to replace older style passports on the US consulate Web site, so I assume that it is not necessary.

Does any know, FOR SURE? Please don't reply if you are just guessing.

It has to be biometric/digitally readable, yes, but if it's only 3 years old it probably is. Worth double-checking, though.

Her passport is OK. The dominican passports are more secure than the US ones. They even have a digital fingergprint on them. The US does not.

My husbands passport is I think 4 years old. It is not digital and is handwritten. But he has travelled to the States on it around 2 years ago. Has it changed since then?
