I'm sure I've asked this before, but I'm just as confused as ever. Please can anyone tell me the proper name of the really tall "palm" trees like those that grow close to the beach at Enquentro? I think they use the leaves for thatching.

I was once told they were King Palms but a google images search says not. I was also told they are Royal Palms, but low-and-behold a Google search reveals that King Palms are A.K.A. Royal Palms.

I'm befuddled!

Simon. Definately not royal palms. I believe they are a species of fan palm although there are many different looks and varieties of fan palms. Tom

For thatching

Simon and Nicky I am not familiar with the area spoke about in the post but I liked the image m'frog provided. If anybody has seeds or baby palms I am always interested. We have Royal palms here and some decorative palms as well, willing to do a trade. If you don't want palms we have many, many other plants and flowers to barter with. Some not found in this country. Let me know.
Thanks
