Hi Everyone, do you need 'residency' in order to open a Fixed-Term Investment Certificate (36 months) account at Banco Central?

I'm aware you need an account at another bank for the interest to be paid too on a monthly basis.

We also have a permanent address in Sosua.

Many thanks.

No. Foreign investments into Banco Central certificates are very welcome here. Also another bank's account will not be a problem, you can open one in any bank with your passport, approval process will be immediate to 2 weeks - depends on the bank and branch. I have seen variations within the same bank. Banco leon opens up account straight away. Banco de Progreso as well, but requires other bank reference. Other banks may take up to 2 weeks to run a credit check on you before opening you the account.

Banco Leon in Sosua asked me if I was a residend, and when I said no, they said that they needed to take a copy of my passport to "check me out" and they said that they'll get back to me in two weeks or so.
