I?ve been living outside San Pedro for about a couple months, and will be returning to the states in approx 2 months. I just had a knee injury on a knee that has had several past problems. Someone told me that an MRI here might be significantly less than when I go back home. A couple questions:

How much would one cost here
Where should I go in Santo Domingo or San Pedro
Can I get a CD of it so that I can send it to my orthopedist at home
What else should I know before I get one here
Would you recommend this, and will the quality be fine

You Really Have Only One Choice, Santo Domingo!

You need to call CEDIMAT 809-565-9989
You can speak with Irwin Spekter,or Doctor Catharine Schraldi. She is an "American" Doctor,Irwin is German. Irwin is "In-Charge" of the "MRI". He speakes English. Dr. Sciraldi is an Internist, but can help you arrange a visit. CEDIMAT is in the "La Fe" section of Santo Domingo. Part of the "Plaza de la Salud" Medical Center. Located on "Ortega y Gaset near Av. JF Kennedy.
Irwin can get you a "CD" and probably "send" it to your hometown doctor.Price will be much less than half of what you will pay in the USA.
CEDIMAT has GE equipment, and staff that know how to us it!
Only problem you "may" have is getting "THROUGH" to the above mentioned doctors. The receptionists are all VERY IGNORANT! They speak NO ENGLISH,and HATE to be BOTHERED by "Phone Calls"! KEEP TRYING!!!!

My experience dates back to 2003 I am afraid - but I can honestly say that the service I received in Santiago when I had an MRI on my spine was superb. The cost was a fraction what it would have been in the UK, the appointment was the day after I telephoned, the documents and results were in the hands of my surgeon in Puerto Plata three days later and the quality and clarity were superb. I don't think you need worry.

Brsboarder...listen to them...don't have it in SPM because as we both know even the quality of the x-rays is rather horrid in SPM. There are some excellent MRI facilities in the Cap (and I'm sure Santiago too).

One question for CC...can't we just write the order from our clinic and have them put the results on a CD? Does he have to go to the internist you recommended? That would seem out of our ordinary procedure (where I write up a referral form and the results some back with the patient.) It may still be beneficial for him to have the internist do this so do you have any idea how much this doc charges for a cash (no seguridad) visit? TIA!

While that price is great, any idea of the quality and whether or not the facility is reputable?
It makes no sense having the study if the person reading it isnt top notch.

If it is where I went, then it is a specialist centre and they are superb and very reasonably priced. I will post their details when I get home ( at work and lurking quietly while at my desk !!! )
