We need tons of advice please. We are two families traveling to the Dominican in March of 09. Two sets of parents with "kids" ages 26,25,24,23,22,21 and 17. We are wanting to stay in an all inclusive resort with many activities to keep the young ones going. They are also interested in the safest nightlife the DR has to offer. We would also like to take some tours during the day and on other days just relax and enjoy the "views". Last year we went to Colorado and had an absolute blast but found that many of the restaurants wouldn't take reservations for 12 at meal time and many wanted to split us up. I could understand it would make their job easier but we're family and wanted to stay together. We are a very easy going group and try to make each trip we take a positive experience so it wasn't like we are demanding or rude. We are also in need of advice on how to travel when we are in the Dr. Is there shuttles from the airport to the resorts? We are not traveling there together so it would be two different groups of 5 and 6. Do we set up tours with the resorts? I also know the females in our group would love to do some shopping too so any help would be grateful! Thanks for all your input!

Consider Cabarete... there are tons of things to do for people in their early 20's & lots of people their age in town. A couple of bars directly on the beach that are in center of the bay & walking distance from hotels I'll mention. A lot of fun & unless they go out of their way looking for trouble (drugs), it's quite safe & 'cool'.

Activities:
biking/hiking/horses/rafting http://www.iguanamama.com
kitesurfing lessons available at many places along the beach. many will give a free initial lesson with some exposure to flying a small kite.
http://www.laureleastman.com as an example (but are many schools)
windsurfing lessons available at many places also http://www.velacabarete.com or http://www.happycabarete.com are examples of some offerings
surfing lessons
tours http://www.mel-tours.com & many others

Hotels:
All inclusive... probably the best & on the bay walking distance to everything in town (day & night) would be the Viva Wyndham Tangerine http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/POPVT/main.wnt

Other lodging:
There are lots of good restaurants in Cabarete to choose from if you don't go AI and if you consider renting condos with kitchens, you can handle a meal or two each day & snacks very easily. http://www.oceandreamcabarete.com is a possibility. They have a 4 bedroom unit ocean front that's super nice & 'may' accomodate all of you. If not, a combination of 2 & 3 bedrooms may do it for you. I honestly think at times condo units are a better deal than an all-inclusive & with some of the condos in town now, a whole lot more comfortable & relaxing. Or look at http://www.cabaretecondos.com Both are very conveniently located on Cabarete Bay, secure, and comfortable. (Ocean Dream/Harmony are newer/nicer than Palm Beach Condos.)
There are those & other great locations that could possibly house all of you at a reasonable cost

Anyhow, that's my 2 cents on Cabarete. In case you didn't notice, I happen to like the place ;)
