I have a friend who is interested in living in the DR, probably the north coast, his kids now gone off to college. He is an emergency medicine specialist registered in the USA, and also Canada where he lives and works. Problem is he speaks only English and French. Does anyone know how difficult it would be for him to work (register and so forth) in the DR? Is it an impossibility without fluency in Spanish? Thanks for your consideration - especially anyone from the medical field in the DR or familiar with this.

Forget it. To work legally he would have to take his boards over again IN SPANISH, and serve a two year internship in a public hospital or clinic for basically no pay. There are ways around this but not very easy or worth the effort. Believe me I have tried. PM me if you want more information. There is actually a small potential for him to work on the north coast.
