i have a friend who is dominican and lives here and he is married to a dominican who lives in spain. They want to get a divorce and wondered what the process for this is here. Both are in agreement that this is what they want. Does this have to be done through a lawyer, what papers are needed, how long does it take and how much does it cost? I would be grateful for any replies. thank you.

how much does this cost and can he still do this if they are both dominican? although she does have dual nationality. how long does the normal divorce proceedure take in this country, how much does it cost and can they do it whilst she is in spain if she gives permission? thanks

No, sorry, didn't read well. This does not apply if both are Dominican citizens.

But, the same law firm also handles divorces of Dominicans. These take longer than the quickie divorce, though. Contact the firm in the link for more information.

If they have been married for more than two years they could file for a mutual consent divorce. The divorce could be obtained in 3-4 months and the spouse living in Spain would not have to come down to the hearings; he can be represented through a power-of-attorney.
