Anyone on the board is an expert on elevators. In the building where I live we are considering either modernizing our panoramic, hydraulic Montgomery elevator (dating to 1979), or buying a new one. We have quotes of US$35,000+ for modernizing and US$50,000+ for a new one. But I feel the new ones are of less quality than modernizing our old one. The new ones would be proprietary systems and the modernizing, would be with non-proprietary system.
I contacted Kone, that bought Montgomery, in the US and they recommended their rep in Puerto Rico who has a local rep in turn who could do the job. But I am having a hard time convincing the building this is a better option than buying a new elevator.
Am looking for someone who could look over the quotes and give an independent opinion.
