Over the last 2 months I have had a growth on one of my eyelids. It is now about the size of a pea. I have tried a couple of different medicated eyedrops but no luck so far. Both my doctor and a friend told me that it is most likely it is something to do with a scalpal infection and that I problably rubbed my eye and got infected. Upon recomendation I also purchased a special shampoo to treat the suspected scalpal infection.
To date this has not worked. Has anybody ever had the same problem as I have? If so, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know what medication you took to treat it. I am tired of constantly going to doctors here, even though when you do receive a prescription you can constantly re-use it...lol!! More often than not you can get better medical advice here on DR1 from people that have experienced these type of things.
I have heard that this type of infection it is quite common down here.
Cheers.

I can recommend two or three doctors:
Dermatologist: Belkis Martinez-Cl?nica Corominas
Eye Doctor: Pedro Guzman (or his son) Clinica Corominas
Or Jose Asilis (or his son) Clinica Bonilla

All are in Santiago.

The name between Dominicans is ORZUELO. Yes. I do not know why so many people gets it.
When a mean pregnant woman asked for something if not given she will say "You are going to get an ORZUELO". I never believe that, but usually a pregnant woman gets away with it. As soon they walk in and you are eating you offer her your plate.
My sister when young always had orzuelos but she had an eye problem. She scrapped the white of her eye with a wire as a child. My parents spent a lot of money until Dr. Hernando in SD treated her. No more infections or orzuelos.
Dominicans buy a little pouch of penicillin the size of a tear drop at the pharmacy for the eyes but as Hillbilliy says go to an specialist.

I hope you don't have blepharitis(sp) because until now there is no treatment here or abroad.
I have it and it sucks and I have no idea how i got it. I've been to the specialists. It is like having dandruff but on your eyelashes. Wash as frequently as possible with warm water and baby shampoo, is what the dermatologists, optholmologists, and others have told me. Do you wake up occasionally with the eyelashes a bit stuck together like when you were a kid with a 'cold' in your eyes? If so, you've got it and good luck.
People often mistakenly think I'm winking at them, which can bring on a whole other set of problems!

Could be a fungus caused by sweat, according to a wise fellow DR1er. If so there is a simple cure, and if someone can post the name of the stuff I'd be grateful, as I lost the piece of paper I wrote it on. ;)

My daughter had the same problem for almost 4 months. We sent her to an eye doctor and she did all of the treatments. Nonetheless the infection stayed for another two months until it finally matured like a pimple and drained itself.

hey tflea, i had what you describe and the baby shampoo worked. i have also had great success with triamcinolone acetonide ointment USP. 0.1%. but i have not been able to find it in any pharmacy in SD however. in the US it is commonly prescribed in anything from a one ounce tube to a 1lb. jar. you have to be very careful not to get it in the eye as it may cause cataracts.

One thing you can try to draw out whatever is in the pea is(and this sounds funny) milk as hot as you can stand it, soaked into a piece of bread. I was told about this as a way to draw out splinters, glass and other organic things. Soak up the hot milk with the bread, put it on the spot, and hold it there. When it cools, repeat a few more times. Its worked for me.

Alternative to triamcinolone, solution of Gentamicin Sulfate 0.3% sold under Garamycin Ophthalmic, see link here: Garamycin Ophthalmic patient advice including side effects
Good luck,

Great idea, just make sure that you use a good German bead. If you use Dominican bread then most of it will end up on your lap once soggy...lol

Yeah, a good rye from the German bakery is Sosua should do the trick. But seriously, this bread and milk remedy has worked several times for me, but I can't explain it.
