Driver License

What are the requirements and procedures of obtaining a Driver License in the DR???

You can pick up the forms a nay branch of the Banco de Reservas. Basically they ask you for your Cedula, to type your blood (at the Red Cross clinic), take a written test (on computer). You then get a learners permit. 30 days later you pass a driving test.

OK, First you need your residence. If you allready have it, no problem. Just go to the JCE in Herrera with the residence card and your passport. It takes about 10 minutes. (At least it used to)
Now if you don't have a residence, that's another story. It can be done by yourself if you have time, but the are attorneys that can take care of it. It normally takes 3 to 6 months. (At least it used to with the previous Gov't)You will be given a "Provisional" for a year. At the end of that period, you must re-apply for a permanent one. The whole thing again but a bit faster. I heard that the new Gov't has changed some of the pre-requisites so it might be wise to use a lawyer.
