Depends where you are staying as Juan Dolio is about 5 kms long so if you do not have a car you will need something in walking distance.

There are some nice restaurants - again depending where you are staying.

Which hotel/apt???

Where are the good clubs in Juan Dolio? Do any play Dominican music?

Hey Jan,

And all this time I thought you a friend. ;););)

This my first time in DR> I am staying at Embassy Suites in Juan Dolio. Any recommendation about the place and where to go at night (very little Spanish, unfortunately)? What about transportation to and from airport at night? Thank you everyone for information!

Easy enough to get transportation to and from the airport in a taxi. Expect to pay around 45 US$. Takes around 20 minutes. Embassy suites is a nice hotel but is situated inside the gated golf club complex of Metro Country Club. It is a say 20 minute walk to the main gate and then you have to cross the mian highway to get into Juan Dolio with the bars, restaurants and beaches. I think they have a shuttle bus in the day if not think about renting a car to get back and forth. At night there are lots of nice restaurants - I would recommend Cacique Bar on the beach in Old juan Dolio for fab austrian food - schnitzels and steaks (closed Sun and Mon), Aura on the beach - lovely food which is international and beautiful setting (but very expensive - but worth it). Aura is situated between old Juan Dolio and Guayacanes. El pescador on the beach in Guayacanes for lovely seafood, El sueno in old Juan Dolio is Italian. In Villas del Mar which is the newer Juan Dolio more in the direction of San Pedro I can recommend El Meson which is spanish and el Con Con which is Italian but has international food too. Guilias cafe in new Juan Dolio has live music from around 9pm on a monday.

Have a great holiday

Thank you!!

Thank you Matilda!! This was very helpful!! Yes, there is a shuttle from the hotel. Also, they provide bikes.

Should I change USD into pesos at the airport or I can do that later? What about local buses?

I am also a bit concerned about the weather due to the hurricane. Is it very bad now?

You can change at the airport or at the hotel maybe or at a change kiosk in Juan Dolio or at the bank - Banco Popular in Juan Dolio. You should get around 34-35 RD$ to the US$. There are local buses but they run along the main highway to Santo Domingo via Boca Chica an the airport to the West and to San Pedro and all points East to the East. But to get to the airport on the bus you need to get off the bus at the left turn to the airport and get a motor bike taxi or a 4 wheeled taxi, for the final 5 minute drive.

Have answered your weather question on the other thread

Don't change money at the airport unless you have no alternative. I have many times just used the ATM machine (lower level of airport near ice cream shop) and get great exchange rates. You will get even better rates from some of the kiosks in Juan Dolio and other towns.

Your worst exchange rate will be at the airport.

Don't let the weather concern you. [I am the non-worrier of my family] It will probably be nice and if not, you will have good stories to tell.

Have fun.

Weather and Hurricane

I planned on going to Juan Dolio from 09/11 till 09/22 but now seeing all the weather and, escpecially hurricanes I am having a 2nd thought. What is the weather in Juan Dolio now? How heavy is the rain? Is there a strong threat of the Hurricane hitting Juan Dolio?

What will be the typical weather in mid-October?

Huge THANK YOU to everybody for any information

I may be a bit late with this reply but hop on a plane and come on down.

There are no significant storms on the way.

There is always a chance of bad weather but there is also always a chance of beautiful weather, beaches and fun.
