The United Nations UNESCO will designate Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra Artist of Peace in the coming days, said an official source.
UNESCO directorKoichiro Matsuura bestowed the honor and will have an initial period of two years, according to a letter UNESCO sent to Dominican Culture Minister Jose Rafael Lantigua, who said the distinction is a "high honor" for the artist as well as for his country. "The importance of Juan Luis Guerra?s career makes him an unquestionable personality of Dominican culture."
