Consider arriving via Santo Domingo (Las Americas International Airport) -- SDQ -- renting a car at the airport and traveling north via the new toll road. Rent your vehicle at Las Americas to travel to Samana. Tolls are about US$20 each way and it is about a 2-1/2 hour drive to Las Terrenas or Las Galeras.

I don't think so. It is purely a leisure destination and it caters overwhelmingly to Europeans. All US airlines are reducing service to the Dominican Republic with fewer flights and, as with AA, smaller aircraft, meaning less capacity. (The one exception is Jet Blue) IF the price of oil stays down maybe they will consider starting American Eagle service to SJU maybe twice a week, (with easy connections to mainland US) but that market won't support more than that. Samana is just not on the US tourist's radar.
