Well, I'm only 3 weeks (today) away from my first trip to the DR (Cabarete) and I am so very excited! I am looking forward to meeting new people, having new experiences and, hopefully, documenting it all photographically.

Toiletries etc. have all been bought and put away ready for packing, as well as gifts and donations, lists have been written and re-written, and I have even pre-bought my tourist cards! (Excited much?!) I'm like a kid in a candy store, just waiting for these 3 weeks to hurry up and fly!

Aaaarrrrggg!!! :laugh:

Cabarete is a great place to start your first trip to the DR. Much better than Punta Cana or other "non-Dominican" places here in the Dominican Republic. I hope you aren't staying in an all-inclusive! Get out, mingle and check out the people. These are the kindest and most beautiful people in the Caribbean, if not the whole hemisphere, so you will have a lot of fun. Enjoy and Welcome!

Unfortunately, yes, AI it is. Purely for the simplicity of it. Work is hectic so my planning time has been minimal and, for the price, I don't feel I could have done much better. I plan on spending such little time there, that I don't feel I'll be missing out on too much by staying in a resort. Plus, I'll know for next time!

I'm really looking forward to meeting locals and exploring the north coast. Wooo!

Snausage, with your hotel you're in the center of town. Walk out the front and you're in the center of town with transportation wherever readily available to parts near and far. It's not like many AI's that are in isolated areas making it difficult to get out and about.
