Sosua Opticas? Prescription lenses available nearby?

Hi, all. I've been searching the old forum threads and see all the past recommendations for optical stores in Santiago for prescription lenses, but does anyone know of a place in Sosua where we can get an eyeglass prescription filled? Mike got a pair of eyeglass frames in Santo Domingo, but we weren't there long enough to get the lenses.

We thought there'd be a place in Sosua, but I can't find any listing for one. Any help on locations in Sosua or Puerto Plata even would be appreciated! We don't care if they send the frames to Santiago to get filled, we'd just like to save ourselves that same trip! :)

Thanks in advance!

You need to got to POP, they have them there and there is one place that has a special on Tuesdays only.....I think that's day.

My oftalmologo is Dr. Carlos Burroughs and he can point you in the right direction.

If you head out of Puerto Plata on Calle Beller, you will see quite a few opticians around. There is one on the ground floor of the building where the UK consulate office is and another further up on the left hand side.
In addition there is a 'mobile' opt. in the car park of Messon.

This one can successfully manage a standard prescription if you already have it, but nothing complicated like the type of measurement needed for vari-lens computer dedicated specs. I know because I gave her the benefit of the doubt 4 times in her efforts to correct what had gone wrong ;) & eventually knocked it on the head & she refunded. Delightful lady but hasn't had the specialised training necessary for that type of measuring.

5th time a charm?

Thanks, Lambada, for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear you had to hassle with it! I've had similar experiences even back in the states with my own prescription (since it's such a high correction). Mike's is pretty simple so we'll see what we can find in POP this week. He's hoping for Transitions lenses...any name for where you finally got yours correctly made?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond!

Simple & transitions they do - no problem. Where I finally got mine correctly made? :cheeky: Won't be a lot of help to you I'm afraid. I emailed my optician in UK who was on the brink of retiring & he sent copies of my last computer dedicated specs by Business Mail & I did a bank transfer.

The good news is he has a house in Cuba where he will eventually live in retirement so if necessary I'll pop over there for future measurements. Hopefully his house is still standing after Ike.

Mike n Amy, If you need a really good opt. , the one that I normally use is in Santiago. They have and more importantly, know how to use all the equipment that you would see in a high end optics. in the US or Europe. Turn around time is fast as well.

I know it is a bit of a drive, but you can package your day out with a visit to decent supermarkets (no offence Playero) and restaurants.

If you need directions, feel free to pm me.

Hello Harrod,
I can't find their business card I will have a look for it in the office tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some very bad directions...

I'm not sure where you are, so assuming that you are at the intersection of the Hace (coming from the Touristica), turn left at the lights (in the direction of National / TGI's / Hodelpa Almirante). Do not go over the overpass, but take the slip road down. At the junction of KFC, turn right and carry on down the road.

Take the 3rd (or is it the 4th...it is the one before the large modern furniture store on the right hand side). The optic store is about 150mt on the right hand side.

Sorry to hear about your burglary.
