Last night a tourist from Alabama left the Casino in Cabarete and was driving towards Sabaneta when a car cut him off near the Texaco station east of Cabarete. Apparently he had cut the man off before.

They both stopped and the tourist screamed at the Dominican. They both got out of thier cars. The Dominican pulled a gun out and hit the man with it. When he did this the gun went off and the tourist was shot in the shoulder. Fortunately it was not serious and he will be OK. The Dominican has not been arrested yet as he never wanted to fire the gun. I would assume he will be arrested anyway, as he did not run and is available.

This is all I know and I am not interested in further discussion as I have no time, nor do I know more. But this did happen.

Wowwww. I guess that goes to show, if someone cuts you off, just keep your anger to yourself because it's not worth it..

Is not the first time an incident like that has happened in DR. It’s very unfortunate that certain people let their anger control them. Sometimes is better to avoid an argument rather than confronting it. You never know who you’re dealing with.

i would presume that the two people already know each other- so this is not an incident out of the blue

oh ! I thought you said it had happened before- I retire from this thread- my apologies

It might be my fault, by before I meant before they both stopped and got out of their cars one of them cut the other off. Sorry.

The guy wasn't arrested because he "didn't mean" to fire the gun? I have to remember this excuse for the future.

love to hear how that works out for you if it happens ha ha ha

PS: I am hoping you are dominican and it is in the DR and the other guy isnt dominican....then you got a chance ha ha

"I'm sorry officer. I did'nt mean to shoot the man when I threatened him with my gun. I only wanted to hit him with it. I'm going home now and we can talk about it later cause I'm tired and drunk and I have blood all over my shirt and you know where to find me."

Beautiful! And probably exactly the way it went down. Al Al just forgot one line, "And say hello to the family for me."

Cutting people off here is the norm unfortunately in the DR. In order to not get upset, you almost have to accept it as fact that people have the right to do it - and in their mind they do. The only condolence I can offer is that you can do it too.

An even worse and much more dangerous idiocy is the way people with expensive cars use the highway from the capital to Santiago - they ride right up on your bumper at a high rate of speed and blow right by you the nearest chance they get. Sometimes one really has to keep a keen lookout in the rearview mirror in order to not get hit when changing lanes. I had some guy do this to me last week and I turned and looked at him and mouthed "loco" as he was nearly sideswiping me as he was passing by. I guess he didn't appreciate some guy in a well used jipeta mouthing off to him in his shiny new Benz because he looked as if he was going to stop - but then thought the better of it.

Respectfully disagree!

No, you cannot if you are gringo here. They may kill you easily and get out of prison in two years. But if you kill him , even in self-defense, - his friends and relatives will kill you sooner or later.

For this reason I never drive at night. I know that in case of any conflict I will be killed. Sooner or later. No my various aquired skills will help me.

In this country gringo is nakedly unprotected.

It is very important that would be relocators understand this well.

I just got back from a trip to Boca Chica for a unction of the Dominican Judo Federation.

What we saw on the highway was incredible. One guy with his warning lights on going 40 in the fast lane and refusing to move over.

Another in a new sports coupe "cutting the cake" (zig-zagging) at a very high rate of speed.

A truck switching lanes with no warning and almost collecting two more cars.

Plus all the normal idiocies, like a couple "strolling" across the Las American Hwy and the Charles De Gaulle intersection like they were on a Sunday walk in the park, with screeching brakes and cars trying to not hit each other...

Fortunately the 379 kms went by without incident on our part, except for a tire...but I was expecting that...
