My wife was hit by a moto and suffered severe hand injuries. She was operated on in Clinica Bournigal in POP, but has suffered complications and has since gone to Centro Medico in Santiago.

I don't know the name of the doctor she is seeing there (I will know it tonight), but I would like to know the name(s) of the best specialists in Santiago. I am in NY and have not seen her wounds, but they sound dangerous to me.

thanks - D

Call Dr. Fausto Batista Cabral at 829-850-9101 (cell). He works in the Clinica Coromicas, Bonilla and Dr. Pichardo and also POP. He speaks English too.

Fausto is a freind of mine so I don't personally don't know of his ability - please ask for references. From what he told me he worked as a doctor in Kentucky and Spain to receive his specialization.

good luck

I know a local POP resident (ex-pat) who had issues with local clinic care for a hand and had to go the the US to get it successfully resolved.

She may choose to jump in.

Good luck.

That would be me. I never investigated the possibilities in Santiago or Santo Domingo since my daughter insisted on a return to the US where there would be people to help me.

My experience at Bournigal with the hand/wrist were, to say the least, not good.

I hope you find a good one. Operating on the hand is easily the most demanding type of ortheopedic surgery. The structure of the hands is so delicate in comparison to other joints, and they perform much more precise functions. When I was rehabing from a severe leg injury I met a physical therapist who was training to be a hand specialist and she talked a lot about how exacting both the surgery and the rehab are.

Who did the operation at Bournigal? Was it Dr. Ravelo or Dr. Silvestre, not sure of the spelling of Silvestre, but he always wears suspenders and is dressed sharp. I would like to know, even if you PM me I would appreciate it.

It was Dr. Vasquez at Bournigal. We seem to be past the crisis, and there is some disagreement among doctors as to whether her hand should have been immediately placed in a hard cast, as she developed a serious infection. But we're ok now. (And I think that's Larry King who wears the suspenders.)

By the way, it appears that rather than it being an accidental side swipe by a moto she may have been the victim of a robbery attempt. It happened quickly as she was exiting her car, but some of the wounds seem to be knife wounds.
