USD $, just this last weekend.

The best exchange rate (this past week) was at the Santo Domingo airport on arrival and at the Calypso Beach Hotel in Boca Chica (Saturday.) Each paid $RD 16.40 per $US 1.00.

Worst was buying jewelry in Sousa where exchange rate was $RD 16.20 per $US 1.00.
