Can anyone recommend a US law firm with offices in DR? Please relate any personal experiences you have had.

Many of the major Dominican law firms have relationships with US law offices: Pellerano, Guzman, etc..the top firms.

Since the basis for the law here and there are so different, US law doesn't really work here.

What do you need?

HB is right, you're going to find that most of the law firms operating here with the same name are 'franchises' or bi-lateral partnerships. One of the few real multi-national ones is based in SD Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P.

May I know, what is the role of the federal government in criminal law? When is a federal bond used?

Federal gov't? The DR is not a federation. We just have a national government. Criminal law is national, i.e., the same everywhere in the DR.

Can you recommend a good U.S. based law firm in the Dominican Republic, one that has control over its Dominican associates and won't milk you for hundreds of thousands of dollars?

As far as I know, there are only two US-based firms doing business in the DR: Russin Vecchi & Heredia Bonnetti and Squire Sanders & Dempsey.

Both are good law firms. Neither one is cheap.
