Can anyone advise as to whether there any GP's (General Practicioners) in Santo Domingo?

Before anyone says to check the site, I have searched DR1 extensively and looked at the "Directory of M.D.'s" in the living section, but cannot find a listing for a GP.

I have attended the emergency room at two medical centres in Santo Domingo over the past 6 months. The care has been fine, but I was hoping to find a reputable english speaking GP (one can but wish!) who I can see for general health matters.

The medical centres I've attended don't seem to keep any medical records. Is this normal?

Any advise or assistance that anyone can offer would be appreciated. ;)

This does seem to be a bit of a problem.

A lot of Americans gravitate towards doctors who are specialists who have studied out of the country.

I don't intend for this to be the final answer to the question, to imply there are no decent GPs or start a flamewar, but in a general sense, I think you will find that the level of medical ability found among general practitioners more closely approximates that of a US trained Registered Nurse.

Also, if a doctor is really fluent in English, it is likely that he has an advanced education and has gotten his specialty in something.

An alternative to a GP is to find a doctor you can trust for recommendations and just ask (call their reception desk) them who to go to every time you need something. It works for us.
