To balance out some of what seems to be present here on DR1 I thought I'd pass this along.
This poem is engraved on the wall of Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta. It's called Anyway

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful,

you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough;
Give the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis
it is between you and God;
it was never between you and them anyway.

Regards
Ro

That was a great post--the first one in this thread. What a beautiful, powerful, and motivational poem that was.

I loved that, and its true! I am not religious but we all worry about what others think and wonder why time after time we help others when we get nothing but trod all over ourselves, but i suppose the main thing is that you are comfortable with yourself and know that you were true to yourself.

I think that is one worth pride of place on the fridge, To remind me everyday!

2 birds with one stone!!

Las personas son a menudo desrazonables,
il?gicas, y egoc?ntricas;
Perd?nelos de todos modos.

Si usted es amable, las personas le pueden acusar
de ego?sta y de tener motivos ulteriores;
Sea amable de todos modos .

Si usted exitoso, usted ganar? alg?n
falso amigo y algunos enemigos verdaderos;
Triunfe de todos modos.

Si usted es honesto y franco,
las Personas le pueden estafar;
Sea honesto y franco de todos modos.

Qu? usted gasta anos construyendo,
Alguien podr?a destruirlo en una noche;
Construya de todos modos.

Si usted encuentra la serenidad y la felicidad,
Ellos pueden estar celosos;
Sea feliz de todos modos.

El bien que usted hace hoy,
las Personas a menudo se olvidar?n manana;
Haga bien de todos modos.

D? al mundo lo mejor de usted,
Y puede nunca ser suficiente;
D? al mundo lo mejor de usted de todos modos.

Ver? que, a fin de cuentas, est? entre usted y Dios;
Nunca fue entre usted y ellos de todos modos.

Escrito en la pared de Shishu Bhavanu,
el refugio de ni?os en Calcuta, India, fundado por Madre Teresa

This is solid advise, like what Mama educate me on.
I hope Dr1 members and myself can adopt some of this motto in to our lifes

Did not read that book but his latest essay (God is not great) has a great chapter on the subject. Hitchens rocks

Nice little spanner in the work there, folks... and this is minimum DR content anyway, so thank you and good night.
