Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate area to post this, but I am interested in learning about the field of Psychology (specifically Child or Developmental Psychology) in the Dominican Republic. Any personal experiences, links to informative sites, etc would be greatly appreciated.
How "big" is the field of Psyc in the DR, and who are the 'key players'? So far the name that has been appearing a lot in my searches has been Dr. Angel Enrique Pacheco. Is this a growing field, or is there not much of an interest? What about support services such as speech therapy and other areas related to Psychology?
While at PUCMM, I looked into taking a Psyc course or two, and saw that they were not offered beyond the undergraduate level. Is this common in most universities in the DR? Do most Psyc students do their graduate studies there or abroad?
Where do most Psychology students do their pasantias, or internships? Schools, hospitals, private clinics, etc? Are there many hands-on experiences?
Is there a lot of research being done in the field? If so, where? And what areas/issues are currently of importance?
What type of environment do those in the field of Psyc work? Are Psychologists mostly working in private clinics giving therapy? What are common reasons for seeking psychological help? Children with developmental or emotional problems, marriage problems, depression, etc?
As far as Institues, I came across the Instituto de Servicios Psicosociales y Educatives, with locations in both Santiago and Santo Domingo. Is anyone familiar with this organization? Are there others?
Thanks so much for any information or leads in the right direction !
