Cabarete to Punta Rusia for snorkeling

Everyone is telling me that on the North Coast the best snorkeling is in Punta Rusia (Paradise Island).
However after speaking with a Tour Operator, he tells me that it is a 3 hours drive(one way) to the site. The cost is very reasonable, but a 6 hours return trip is really alot.
Can anyone recommend a closer place?

There is a reef off of Sousa. Go to the beach and you can hook up with a boat to take you there. The booze boats all go there. The other reef is better, but it's a long trip. your call.

You can also just swim out to the reef from the beach at Sosua bay instead of taking a boat.
