Yes - but we found less hassle when we drew pesos out of ATM's. You probably will have to go to a bank to cash Travellers Cheques and our one experience was less than pleasant. It could have been the lady was having a "bad hair day"! However, in spite of the extra charge your card company may levy for drawing from ATM's we prefer that method. ONE WORD OF CAUTION - WATCH YOUR BACK. Particularly if you find a machine that is slow at returning your card - you may find some sharp eyes peering over your shoulder. We had no problem of this, or any other nature, when we used the machines at the Playa Dorada PLaza.

Enjoy your trip.

hi Joyce

Since i have been going to the DR 11yrs, that's all I have taken.
Canadian or us travellers cheques are easy to exchange. If you have a passport you are O.K. If you are only changing say 100 a day, stay with canadian. There is not much difference in the out come and easier to divide by ten, then sixteen. Anywhere in sosua, capital, puerto plata, etc.. You have these small places along the road in sosua to exchange money, that's your best place, not from your hotel.
Just look and ask for the rate then take the best one.
Have fun
