If you read all Dominican newspaper articles about the Israeli military offensive in Gaza you would think Al-Jazeera runs the Dominican media. What is even worse is that this situation is blamed dually on the United States while Dominican politicians, ONG's and so-called human rights groups are favoring Hamas, Hezbollah and the Islamist terrorists around the world.
Funny thing...I have never heard Dominican Rights groups complain about rockets fired by Hamas into Israel. I never even heard them complain about 9-11 WTC terror act where many Dominicans and citizens of many nations died.
We also have a new class of politicians who kiss the ass of the new terror trio of Chavez, Amadinejah and Putin. When was the last time you heard any Dominicans complain about what the Russians did to Georgia? Or what they are doing to Ukraine? Is anyone paying attention to what the Russians are doing to the former Soviet Islamic republics? Have Dominican rights groups and politicians ever say anything about the failed 50 year "revolution" in Cuba?
As far as they're concerned the real evil was Bush> What are they going to do when Obama takes over only to follow in Bush's steps and do what all good U.S. presidents do..to preserve democracy and the free enterprise system all over the world?
El Nacional is the the worst of them all with all the left wing editors who never left the 60"s and still believe in the "Cultural Revolution".
Suffice to say that all of them beg and crawl on their knees for a U.S. visa to go shopping in Miami and play at Disney World.
When was the last time you saw any of them take a vacation in Gaza, Teheran, Damascus or Moscow? Where do they send their kids to school? Any takers for Cuban schools? Of course, unless is to get an easy medical degree from Havana's medical school with a PLD scholarship in "dollars".
I can't understand how Dominicans can think of turning the back on the country that feeds most Dominicans thru the famous "remesas".
For god's sake, we have an Israeli embassy here!! How do these people contact Hamas for their biases news? Has anyone seen an Arab embassy here? What have Islamists ever done for DR?
Am I supposed to believe that Dominican men want to enslave their women like Islam does? Do we prefer to see our women wearing Taliban veils or bikinis and mini skirts? How hipocrytical!!!
Dominican men are the biggest womanizers on earth. Proof of it are the latest statistics on women killed by their obnoxious men. We have the record in the world.
Well, if you want my say I am proud to support the Israeli attack on these terrorists who hide under their women's skirts and children and use them as umbrellas. Let them face the music. As for Obama, just watch! I hope they are not dissapointed when he does exactly what all president do.
I am glad to be in the minority who believes George Bush did a great job defending our occidental way of life, traditions and values. It's not his fault that Leonel Fernandez and the PLD have failed to turn us into and efficient producing nation instead of a consumer and the DR Cafta has not worked. I am just waiting for Leonel to show his real face. he's another Chavez ass kisser and future palestinian supporter, if he isn't already.

It is really a shame that their is such an uniformed populace here in the DR when it comes to issues like this. You can thank the US liberal media for this as it is assumed that anything associated with Bush is considered bad and to be shunned, Israel included.

The leftest elements in LA are increasingly trying to exert their influence but they have something that works againts them, the fact that a godless socialist society cannot function and will eventually fail.

Here I sit, cheeks a-flexin' and wondering if AZB will publicly disagree with his have-lots-of-mullah hero, TW.

Then comes Chip... typing.

Wow. Where did that come from? It doesn't take much to set you off , does it? Still seeing things in black and white, huh?

Believe it or not, there are people in this world who look at things objectively, make reasoned and rational decisions, about a wide variety of issues, with an open mind, and feeling compelled to spout the same tired party line on every issue.

And it is possible to realize there is more than one way to look at things, that all sides of an issue deserve to be examined, without being either a card-carrying commie or a right-wing neo-nazi nut.

There are many shades of gray to consider, as well as a wide range of colors.

Some very good observations from Golo, just the same.

Let's keep this on topic. The DR's media coverage of the middle east and Israel.

Anything else will be removed, you've been warned....

You western countries are totally inefficient, dragging this till the end. why not drop a few more atomic bombs on all the muslim countries (like japan) and be done with it? The christain way, right chip?
Chip, you and golo are not in the same league. i respect golo and i know the delth of his knowledge. i have a feeling, he knows a lot more than he writes. I know he hates arab world and their culture but his feeling comes from his deep knowledge and experience. On the other hand, Chip is a CNN / Fox news sheep.

There is no real coverage by the media here, of international events. Look at the news reports for international stories, they are purchased from EFE or the AP and then translated. So at times the media is not creating or reflecting its own bias, rather perpetuating the bias of the source they get their story from. So if EFE spins it one way, the media here does the same. There are no Dominican journalist in Baghdad, Gaza etc. At the end of the day the DR media, at least in the internationalist sense, doesn't have the resources, quality or experience to cover international events. But at the same time that is not their purpose. Those who truly want to be informed go searching for news from a variety of sources.

As per the "sway" in Latin America, politics sway towards those who give them benefits. Chavez has oil, the DR supports Chavez. Anything else is posturing. It's become real popular to "hate" Bush, especially now.

In general media in Latin America could be construed as "conservative" especially if you don't write what those in power want to read.

On a final note, I have no doubt in my mind that the politicians, the media or the people on the ground have any idea what is really going on. For those of us who try to stay informed Middle Eastern politics are difficult to understand as is, so for many Dominicans this could be more difficult.

Folks, please do not take me seriously, but...

Money has its rewards: golo is never challenged, instead:

Where are the usual suspects who normally ask for sources?

Then there's poor ol' Chip: AZB disagrees with Chip agreeing with golo, who disagrees with AZB: a "riddle wrapped in a mistery inside an enigma" if I ever saw one.

I am not agreeing with GOLO. i happen to like golo as a writer on DR1. i am very impressed with his knowledge on various subjects. All I am saying is, GOLo hates arabs, muslims (at least in public forums) but he possesses the real knowledge on the subject so who knows how he talks about these issues when he is within the circle of his friends.
Who can support arabs and criticize israel on public forums? Does anyone want to be a terrorist supporter? How many people in professional field can openly criticize israel? certainly not on this popular webpage. hahahaha
i am 180 degrees apart on this subject, and fully disagree with golo. But if he hates the arabs, then so be it, its his choice steming from his experiences.
now chip doesn't possess the same knowledge as golo. Not in the same league. Chip follows CNN and fox news. Oh yeah, he met some iranian in florida one day. so he knows the arab culture well. sorry i forgot.
