How consistent are whales in Samana at the beginning of MArch. Are there any dive companies that have snorkeling with whale trips?

You should be very careful not to disturb the whales too much/diving with the whales, particularly mothers and thier calfs. There are well known international standards for whale watching and the DR government appears serious about enforcing regulations which have been implemented to protect them. Kim Beddall is an expert on these matters and operates an internationally acclaimed whale watching operation out of Samana. Whale Samana - Home Page Samana has been the end point for whale migration for a very long time. We should be respectful of them, even in our fascination. Diving with whales just does not sound like a good idea.

Dolphinhead,
I was researching the whales in the Silver Bank and there are a couple of operator out of Puerto Plata that do "soft in encounters" where you are on a liveaboard and they transport you to an active whale are and you slide into the water with your group and basically float in a big group with your snorkel gear. You can google it but these liveaboard trips (7 days) cost around $3000 per person for the week. I haven't found any day trips for the soft in encounters, but who knows?
