Las Terrenas in December

My friend and I are going to Las Terrenas on Dec. 12 and plan to stay there about a week. We are going low-mid range and wonder whether it is necessary to reserve accomodation for that time period. We would prefer to go there and choose a place, instead of being locked in by a reservation. We are also interested in staying somewhere where we can cook (Rough Guide mentions La Louisiane). Any recommendations?

samana is absolutely stunning. Good choice. I cannot recommend anywhere specific in Las Terrenas, but have a look on www.samana.net which specialises in Samana. They have their own message board as well.

Susanne

I am not familiar with La Louisiane. In June I stayed with family and a group of friends at Residence Playa Colibri on the western end of Las Terrenas and was very pleased with the accommodations. These are one and two bedroom apartments that are fully equipped for cooking. Las Terrenas has a well stocked supermarket in town and there are many options for dining out, so it is a good option not to go with an all-inclusive program. The rates are very good. I believe they should be around US$65 for a two bedroom apartment, but confirm this by email.

I strongly recommend that you book in advance as most of these hotels are small and the better ones may not be available if you just walk-in.

The email for Colibri is colibri@codetel.net.do

Hi, I have an excellent suggustion for LT hotels. Try the Hotel Villa Caracol, 809-240-6078, 809-240-6141. This is a low priced Hotel with AC and hot water and very clean rooms! All rooms have Fridge, but some rooms have cooking facilities also. Since I wont arrive tiill Dec 21 I'll give you the best room Numbers! Rooms 202 and 302 are great. They have 2 beds and are bigger than the other rooms. The prices are great and the same fpr all rooms. The price should be 450 to 500 pesos a day, which is very good for the quality of the rooms. Also ti is located on an extreamly quiet street, which is important if you know about motoconchos, espicialy at Christmas time. Ive stayed here 15 to 20 times and will be back Dec 21 to Jan 6 ! Email me direct if you need more info on LT, I was there at the end of October.
