If you plan to visit the United States from now on, you may need to fill out this on-line enhanced security form called "ESTA".
It only takes a few minutes to fill out and is valid for 2 years, it also tells you if your application has been successful or not. This new requirement only became active on 12th January, 2009.

I did it already, you will see if you are approved within seconds.
It basically replaces that green form for the visa waiver program, so the process entering the US should be faster now at the immigration counter.

ESTA... it's here:

As posted a week or so ago, here's the direct link to do it.

Electronic System For Travel Authorization (To start, click on "Apply" on the bottom left corner of the green form)

All those who are so fortunate to be able to travel to the US without a visa (visa waiver program) based on their nationality, now MUST pre-qualify by filling out the online version of the ol' green slip handed in airplanes in the past, AT LEAST 3 days prior to traveling to the US. IF approved, it's good for two years (multiple entries).

THIS IS NOT VALID for those who are foreign nationals who need to apply for a visa to enter the US (E. g. Dominicans).
Those who have a visa do NOT need to fill out the ESTA online form.

Yes, under this program, aliens entering the US under the Visa Waiver Program will no longer be required to fill out I94W (green form) as the new ESTA system collects essentially the same information. Only the customs declaration will now be required. Also in the past year, many more countries have been added to the VWP (so now most, but not all of the European Union is included, as well as South Korea)

However being approved by the ESTA system does not guarantee your entry into the US, just as simply being a citizen of a country that is included in VWP does not guarantee admission into the US. The final determination of admissibility lies with the CBP officer upon arrival based on his or her interview of the passenger, just as it always has. So will it really speed things up at the airport?

What about someone travelling from the US to the DR with a US passport who stays beyond the 60 days. Can I get an extension beyond the tourist card? Or is this for DR to US only?

Thanks.
