A group of close friends (8 to 10 couples) are going to Punta Cana in May to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. We are a fun group who are pretty laid back and like to have a good time. We have some self-proclaimed hotel "snobs" and some other on somewhat of a budget so I am looking for a resort to satisfy both. I would like a resort that offers a casino, good food, great beach (we are from Florida), spa and golf (or very close to golf). I have narrowed it down to: Majestic Colonial/Elegance, Ocean Blue and Grand Palladium Palace. Excellence also looks fab, but it is too far from airport (1 hour?) and a little out of our price range. Will someone please HELP me decide??!!?? I am also open to suggestions if I am totally off base with these. Thanks!

take also a look at the Barcelo Beach Resort.
lo9cated at the most beautiful beach on our east coast, spercalm top water/beach. for the 'hotelsnobs' look in that resort on the Palace or better on their new 5star suites(allows customers to use all restaurants/facilities of all hotels in the resort) and the group members on a budget could book at one of the 4 star hotels within the same resort. they6 have their own Casino at the resort and they have their own 18 holes Golf course within the resort, most touroperators offer packages which include several Tee Times per stay. also their onsite discotheque is a good spot for the nighttime hangouts.

I would also look at the Melia Hotels. As far as I know, one round of golf at Cocotal golf course per person / day is included in the AI.

right Mido,
the Melia property also contains the requested different levels of rates, for the resort snobs(hey, those been the words of the OP, ha ha) they have the Paradisus Palma Real and the Melia Rpyal services on their grounds, for the more economic crowd they have their standar packages at the Caribe and Tropical, i do not know exact rates to compare to the prior mentioned Barcelo resport. the Cocotal golfcourse in front of the Sol Melia resort is a good one and they offer packages to the customers of palma real and melia caribe/tropical.
happy sunday

I have never been to Majestic, but I really like Ocean blue. It has golf, casino, good food, great drinks, very beautiful pool, nice staff, etc. It's a good choice.

hey Rubio,
they've been in urgent need of renovations, but they are on it. the beach hotel is finished, part of it opened as a separate section with exclusive suites, been there last week, it's really top, the palace never been a bad one, the Caribe is on the renovations process now and when done the Golf and Casino hotel are on that shedule. i know some reviews complained heaviliest about the resort late 2008, but heck, they had offered for which i happily would have spend a 2 weeks vaca there at a still not renovated room.
and they have the big advantage to be located at the by far best beach in the area.
for the group of the OP which is looking for a resort which offers all that together on the same property the Barcelo Beach Resort would be a good spot to take, the vaca-snobs in the new suits, the cheaper crowd at the Golf or Casino hotel, they have their own golf course and included on the property, own casino on the property, 2 good spots for the nighttime action and for that they show very reasonable rates.
Ocean Blue is a good place, too, with golf and casino nearby, but not on the property, Majestic the same, would be my fav out of the mentioned properties, but no real cheap rates available there.
happy travel
Mike

Thanks so much for all the great info. I am looking into all the resorts mentioned and keeping my fingers crossed that airfare goes down a bit. I really appreciate all the great feedback!
